Police Blotter: Aug. 16-22

Babies on the loose, some mischievous kids acting up before summer ends and some car and home burglaries are featured in this week's roundup of police activities.

August 16

4:33 p.m. – An owner of a residential building on Throckmorton Avenue called police concerned that her tenants are leaving their 16-year-old daughter alone at night. The caller wanted to know the laws regarding the matter before confronting the tenant.

6:25 p.m. – A car struck a pedestrian at East Blithedale and Sycamore avenues. The pedestrian was conscious and uninjured when police arrived at the scene. Police are investigating the incident.

August 17

3:45 a.m. – A resident of Fairway Drive reported loud music coming from a house in the area that has a swimming pool. The caller told police that he was leaving for the airport and didn’t want to be contacted about the incident. An officer went to the neighbor’s house and advised the resident to turn down the music.

4:42 p.m. – A resident of Janes Street reported that someone has been throwing around his trash cans and he wanted to file a report about it. An officer responded and found no damage to the cans and determined that it was likely a civil matter.

August 18

9 a.m. – A resident of Cornelia Avenue reported that he parked his car on the street and someone had put screws into his tires. An officer responded and found that the car had been parked on the street for two straight weeks but couldn’t determine if the screws were intentionally put into the tires or picked up on the road while driving.

12:30 p.m. – A nanny for a family on Roque Moraes Drive reported that she locked herself out of the house and an 11-month-old baby was inside the house, out of her crib and loose in the house. A Southern Marin Fire crew responded and helped the nanny get into the house.

1:53 p.m. – A woman called police to report that she locked her 10-month-old baby in her car on Tamalpais Avenue. The baby wasn’t in distress and the car wasn’t running. Police officers and fire crews responded and helped the woman gain access to her car and get the baby out.

7:04 p.m. – A resident of Longfellow Road returned home after two months away and found that her Bluetooth device and a guitar had been stolen from the house. An officer responded and determined that someone entered the house through an unlocked kitchen window. No items of high value were taken.

August 19

3:15 a.m. - Walnut Ave. residents reported seeing someone entering the wife’s vehicle and taking some items. The woman’s husband reported seeing three male juveniles when he went outside to confront them. Officers responded and eventually detained four subjects. The victims were unable to identify them and police released all but one, who was arrested for public drunkenness.

August 20

2:54 a.m. – An officer on routine patrol at Tam High checked the gate of the pool and found that someone had tampered with it and made it unusable. He officer took photos and filed a report.

5:09 p.m. – Two male juveniles were cited on suspicion of committing arson after a vegetation fire started near Seaver Drive. Both subjects were released to the custody of their parents and the fire was contained.

August 21

10:49 a.m. – A resident of Marin Avenue reported that sometime between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. someone went into her house through an unlocked door on the lower level and stole jewelry worth $500-$1,000.

4:49 p.m. – A woman driving on Sycamore Avenue at Camino Alto reported two male juveniles on bicycles threw a rock at her vehicle but said that it could also have been the result of a BB gun. An officer met the woman at home and determined that the front right window of the car sustained minor damage from either a rock or BB gun. No suspects were identified.

August 22

4:45 a.m. – An officer on patrol spotted a car with expired registration on East Blithedale Ave. and pulled over the car. There were three people inside, and determined that one woman had an outstanding no-bail drug warrant. Police said they found the woman to be in possession of six needles and two miscellaneous drug items. The woman, a 21-year-old San Rafael resident, was arrested on suspicion of a number of drug-related offenses and the outstanding warrant and taken to Marin County Jail.
