Police Blotter: April 5 – 11

The past week's worth of police activities included some homework burning at Old Mill School, a bizarre neighbor dispute, a splashy false alarm and a lonely bumper.

Tuesday, April 5

(Vehicle Habitation / Sleeper) A resident called police at 9:10 a.m. to report that an older model vehicle had been parked at the trailhead at West Blithedale and Ralston avenues on and off for more than three weeks. The caller said a man with a beard had been sleeping in the vehicle. An officer responded and checked the entire length of both street but didn’t find the suspected vehicle.

(Domestic Violence) Someone called police from Bayfront Park at 2:47 p.m. to report that a man and woman were hitting and yelling at each other at the dog park. The couple was yelling about alcohol and they two dogs with them, a shepherd and a pit bull. The caller told police that there were several witnesses they could contact regarding the couple. Police responded and arrested the woman on suspicion of domestic battery.

Wednesday, April 6

(Suspicious Circumstance) Someone burned some homework papers on the playground at Old Mill School, according to a report from a school employee at 7:40 am. There was no damage to the buildings. Police agreed to provide extra patrol of the neighborhood for the next 30 days.

(Suspicious Circumstance) A Tam high student called police at 1:55 p.m. to report that his car may have been stolen from the school parking lot. The student called hi mom for the car’s license plate information and seemed confused about where exactly he may have parked the car, according to police. The student soon learned that it was a prank played by one of his friends. No merit to stolen vehicle report – just hi-jinx.

Thursday, April 7

(Fraud Report) The owner of a business on Throckmorton Ave. reported to police at 2:47 p.m. that a credit card transaction made there on Feb. 25 for $19,881.60 was fraudulent. Store has no video surveillance.

Friday, April 8

(Burglary Report) Upon her return from vacation, a resident of Manzanita Place reported at 12:30 am. that her front door and the door leading to the garage was open and several items (costume jewelry, clothing) were missing from her home. 

(Advice to Citizen) A resident of the Redwoods called police at 9:40 a.m. to report suspicious activities related to her two nephews and her bank accounts since she was moved into the Redwoods.

Saturday, April 9

(Physical Altercation) Police were called to the 2AM Club at 1:11 a.m. on a report of a fight. When officers arrived, a group had gathered and two men were fighting and one ended up receiving facial lacerations from a broken bottle. Officers arrested a 26-year-old man for public drunkenness.

(Suspicious Circumstance) Someone called police from Piatti’s Restaurant at 3:01 p.m. to report seeing a boat that is possibly overturned and something splashing behind it. The caller wanted someone to check and make sure everything is okay. An officer responded and checked the Richardson Bay area but couldn’t find an overturned boat. The officer then contacted the caller, who told police that he hadn’t in fact seen a boat, but did see a lot of splashing. The officer spotted a number of birds resting in shallow water.

(Assist Citizen) A resident of Seaver Drive called police at 6:59 p.m. to report that she is afraid of going home because of an ongoing dispute with her neighbor, who lives above her. The woman told police that the neighbor won’t allow her to watch television or listen to the radio because she wants quiet. The caller claimed that her neighbor has been sending electrical signals through the wall sockets, causing damage to her eyes.

Monday, April 11

(Public Intoxication) Police responded to a call about loud music coming from a vehicle on Hillside Avenue at 4:34 a.m. An officer contacted the subject in the vehicle and determined that he had been drinking. Police said the man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and probation violation. The officer called to see if Helen Vine rehabilitation center was available, but it was full, so the man was booked into the Marin County Jail.

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident called police from Boyle Park at 8:52 a.m. to report finding the front bumper of a car with the license plate attached. An officer responded and found a current registration on the bumper and contacted the car’s owner. The registered owner of the car is the father of the driver that left the bumper from a previous collision. The father told police that he would come to pick up the bumper.
