Police Blotter: April 19 – May 2

We serve up a double shot of Mill Valley 911 this week, from a scrap outside the 2AM Club and some overly muddy Earth Day volunteers to plenty of thefts, including some sushi from Safeway.

Tuesday, April 19

(Grand Theft Report) A resident of Hillside Avenue called police at 12:03 p.m. to report that his bicycle had just been stolen from the front of his unlocked vehicle. The bicycle was valued at between $800 and $1,000 but it had no serial number. Police advised the resident of a string of recent car burglaries in the neighborhood and advised him to keep his car and house locked.

(Animal Incident or Violation) A resident of Coleridge Drive reported at 5:05 p.m. that his neighbor’s aggressive dog was off its leash. Police contacted the neighbor and advised him of the city’s leash ordinance.

Wednesday, April 20

(Prowler) A resident of Camino Alto Court called police at 11:32 p.m. and reported hearing glass break and that it sounded like someone was on the porch. Officers responded and found a broken plant pot, possibly knocked over by high winds. Officers search the area to no avail for a possible prowler.

Thursday, April 21

(Show of Colors Request) Police received a call at 8:12 p.m. about the suspected theft of copper railings from a house on Ralston Avenue that is vacant and in foreclosure. The caller was concerned that people would come back and steal more items from the house. Police contacted the real estate company handling the property to get someone to remove the remaining copper at the property.

Saturday, April 23

(Health & Safety Violation) An employee of the called police at 1:12 a.m. to report a fight breaking out. Police responded and arrested a man, who police said kept bashing his head into the partition in the police car after he was detained. Police arrested the man for possession of methamphetamine, public intoxication, vandalism and obstructing and resisting arrest. The man was booked into Marin County Jail.

(Vandalism Report) Someone tagged a number of locations on Magee and Corte Madera avenues, police determined after receiving a call from a resident at 9:21 a.m. The suspect used orange spray paint, police said.

(Assist Citizen) Someone called police from at 10:55 a.m. to report that a group of girls covered in mud were making a mess of the women’s bathroom. The group was there as part of the city’s Earth Day-related , but the woman was upset that the bathrooms were dirty. A police officer responded and spoke with the head of the cleanup group to get the bathroom cleaned up. 

Monday, April 25

(Advice to Citizen) A woman who was staying at the hotel called police at 1:04 p.m to report that an unknown male knocked on the door of her room claiming to be a Mill Valley police officer. The woman didn’t open the door or see the man, but said he told her “a rapist serial killer had escaped from San Quentin and is staying in the next room.” Police provided one day of extra patrol to the area.

Tuesday, April 26

(Health & Safety Violation) A resident near Plymouth Circle & Valley Circle called police at 4:23 p.m. to report hearing juveniles near the creek and the smell of marijuana. Police responded and found three juveniles, citing one of them for marijuana possession. The youth was released to the custody of his father.

Wednesday, April 27

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of Dots Lane and Rose Avenue told police at 11:04 a.m. that a neighbor had moved out last week and threw his garbage in the creek, including prescription drugs. The man said he was worried about possible hazmat and pollution issues from the debris. Police removed the garbage and meds from the creek.

(Shoplifting Report) A security guard at caught a 15-year-old student stealing sushi. Police responded an the subject agreed to pay for the item and return to school.

(Burglary Report) A resident of Vista Linda Drive reported at 1:35 p.m. that someone entered her home and stole her laptop computer, iPad and two cameras.

Friday, April 29

(Battery) A brother and sister living on Kipling Drive got into a fight, sending the sister to the hospital with cuts and scratches. The brother left the scene in the family’s car.

Saturday, April 30

(Suspicious Circumstance) A resident of Carmelita Avenue and Thalia Street called police at 2:22 p.m. to report that a man “with a dark complexion” and driving “an older model sports car” was picking up a cleaning lady who the caller described as 20-25 pounds overweight and carrying plastic bags. The caller said the man was near her house yelling at the other woman in a sleazy way. The caller said she was very scared and uncomfortable. Police officers checked the area but were unable to find the offending parties. 

(Fraud Report) A resident of La Goma St. reported to police at 3:47 p.m. that her daughter had her ATM card stolen from her backpack while at tam High. The card has subsequently been used several time over the past twos at gas stations and Home Depot, the caller reported. 

Monday, May 2

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A resident of Myrtle and Summit avenue reported at 9:21 a.m. that a woman had three dogs off-leash despite several nearby signs advising that dogs must be kept on a leash. Police responded and warned two subjects in the area and placed a response card on the windshield of the car belonging to the woman with three dogs.
