Police Blotter: April 12 - 18

A string of car burglaries and mail theft in the Scott Valley area, a lost deaf dog and Rolex sale-turned theft highlight this week's worth of police activity.

Tuesday, April 12

(Fraud Report) A resident of Marguerite Ave. learned that her Social Security number and identity information were used to gain access to her Saks 5th Avenue account and more than $5,000 was charged.

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) Someone called police at 11:36 a.m. to report that a truck pulling a trailer was dumping concrete on the roadway near Old Mill Park and blocking the roadway. An officer responded and found that the concrete was being placed in a “No Parking” zone, which was created specifically for that purpose. The concrete was not blocking the roadway.

Wednesday, April 13

(Suspicious Person) A resident called police from the 300 block of Miller Ave. at 6:27 a.m. to report that a man was standing near the bench, talking to himself and yelling at plants. An officer responded and contacted the man, and determined that the man wasn’t crazy but simply a homeless man on the move.

(Grand Theft Report) A pre-arranged meeting to sell a Rolex watch apparently turned into a theft, as a resident spotted a woman chasing a man in a car heading down the 700 block of E. Blithedale Ave. 11:49 a.m. towards Hwy. 101. 

Thursday, April 14

(Sex Crime – Report) A resident of Marin Terrace reported to police at 11:46 a.m. that a male co-worker was harassing her earlier this morning, grabbing her and invading her personal space. Both employees and their supervisor met with a police officer. Police ended up arresting the man for sexual battery and booked him in the Marin County Jail.

Friday, April 15

(Penal Code Violation) A police officer pulled over a car in the 600 block of E. Blithedale Ave. at 3:56 a.m. During the stop, the officer noticed mail with various Mill Valley address on the back seat. The driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of a variety of theft, burglary, parole violation and mail tampering charges. They were booked into the Marin County Jail.

(Petty Theft Report) A series of car burglaries were reported in the Scott Valley area. A resident of Midhill Drive called at 10:11 a.m. to report that sometime overnight his father’s truck was entered and his disabled placard and an iPod were taken. Items from the glovebox were removed and scattered on seats.

At 10:28 a.m., a resident of Underhill Rd. reported that sometime overnight, his wife’s unlocked vehicle was entered and items were thrown around. The man said that his wife had to go to work and took the car, so he didn’t know exactly what had been stolen.

At 11:07 a.m., a resident of Coach Road said that his unlocked car was entered sometime overnight and cash, jewelry and electronics worth about $150 were taken. Residents on those streets and others in the area also reported mail theft.

Saturday, April 16

(Noise Disturbance) A resident near Sycamore Park called police at 12:03 a.m. to report that there was some type of noisy gathering at the park. The caller didn’t want any additional contact with police and wanted to remain anonymous. Police found a group of teens in the park and moved them along.

Sunday, April 17

(Assist Other Agency) A dog walker called police from Hauke Park at 2:19 p.m. to report that she had become separated from one of her dogs and that the dog is deaf. The Marin Humane Society dispatched an officer, who found the dog and returned it to the walker.

Monday, April 18

(Assist Citizen) A woman came into Public Safety Building at 8:44 a.m. to follow-up on a report she filed yesterday regarding inappropriate sexual texts and photos that were sent to her cell phone. She wanted to tell the police officer that additional picture messages had been sent to her phone since she filed the report. The officer advised the subject that the crime had actually occurred at the San Francisco Airport and suspect lives in the Sheriff’s jurisdiction of Marin County. The woman was advised to contact the Sheriff’s department.

(Shoplifting Report) An employee of reported at 12:20 p.m. that a male Tam High student stole $10-12 worth of food and ran away from the store and headed back to campus. The manager’s office at the store provided police with a photo of the student. The officer cited and released the student for misdemeanor petty theft.
