Ping Pong Paddle Theft, Christian Science Derision and a $3,000 Western Union Scam

This week's roundup of police activities features the usual assortment of unsecured items.

April 16

10:51 a.m. – The president of the board of the on Camino Alto reported to police that someone had scratched marks into one of the church’s outside walls that were derogatory of the religion. There was minimal damage to the building and police gave the church officials advice.

5:10 p.m. – A ping pong table cover, ping pong paddles, a net and a bag of balls were stolen from an unlocked shed at a Catalpa Ave. residence.

April 17

10:23 p.m. – A juvenile was cited for vandalism at Mill Valley Middle School and the boy’s mother was notified by police.

1:38 p.m. – A driver reported to police that a female driver was cutting her off and slamming on her brakes repeatedly in the area of Throckmorton Ave. downtown. Police were advised to be on the lookout for a silver colored SUV.

1:53 p.m. – Two gold diamond rings were stolen from a home on the 300 block of Lovell Avenue. Police determined that there had been no forced entry to the home and that entrance was gained to the home by a back door that was left open for the resident’s dogs.

3:19 p.m. – A resident of Upper Alcatraz Place reported that she went to the grocery store at around 1:15 p.m. and left her house unlocked, only to return home and find that the house had been burglarized. The downstairs bedroom was ransacked and several other rooms had been gone through, with an iPad, some jewelry and several other items taken.

5:03 p.m. – A resident reported to police that a black Range Rover and a gray Range Rover were parked along the 1100 block of Cascade Dr. at Marion Ave. in such a way that made it hard to pass by.

6:45 p.m. – A resident of the Redwoods called police to report that she had sent $3,000 via Western Union to a number after she was told that her grandson had been in an accident in Mexico. The resident was called back the next day with a request for additional money. Police took a report.

April 18

9:35 p.m. – A resident reported that a dog had been howling from inside a white Volvo at La Goma St. and Sycamore Ave. for the past two hours.

April 19

2:14 p.m. – A resident of the 100 block of Summit Ave. reported that her phone bill showed that he had made 56 calls to a phone number in Novato and that she had been charged for a long distance call each time. Police gave the residence advice on how to reach out to the phone company. 

2:30 p.m. – Police received a report that a man in his mid-30s was walking down Miller Ave. and was so drunk that he fell over twice, including once in the street near the 7-Eleven. 

April 20

9:26 a.m. – A resident who lives near Old Mill School called police to report that someone at the school was using a power washer and a gas-powered leaf blower at the school. Police determined that there was no violation and advised the person who complained.

10:53 a.m. – Police received a report that the driver of a brown station wagon ran a stop sign at Janes St. and Molino Ave. and almost hit some people in the crosswalk. The driver was described as a white man around 60 years old with gray hair.

11:31 a.m. – A group of three bicyclists fell to the ground on Camino Alto near Miller Ave. after a reckless driver nearly hit them, according to a report. Police were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

April 21

3:15 p.m. – A resident of Surrey Ave. reported that a $3,000 gray Specialized Enduro mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack of a car parked in the driveway. The theft occurred sometime between 9 p.m. the previous night and 9 a.m. this morning.

3:26 p.m. – Police received a complaint of some kids playing music in the Depot Plaza. Police contacted the kids, who were getting ready for a performance that night at the Youth Rock the Rebuild benefit event at the Sweetwater Music Hall. The kids were allowed to continue playing for 15 more minutes but only with acoustic instruments.

5:31 p.m. – A resident reported that several teens were playing loud music in some SUVs in a parking lot in the 300 block of Miller Avenue. Police were unable to locate the music.

April 22

9:50 a.m. – Police received a reported that nails had been scattered all over the road on Camino Alto at Overhill Road. Police notified the Department of Public Works of the issue.
