Pet Hospital Break-In, Clueless Drivers and a Basketball-Sized Sinkhole

This week's roundup of police activities also includes some stolen antique dinner plates and the babysitter's car getting its windshield shattered.

April 30

5:12 p.m. – A resident of Escalon Dr. reported that her neighbor’s son threw something off their deck, shattering the windshield of the car below. The Lexus SUV belonged to the woman’s babysitter. Police determined that there was no merit to any possible vandalism and that it was simply an accident. The son and his mother agreed to replace the windshield and repair the SUV.

7:24 p.m. – A resident of the 300 block of Summit Ave. complained that someone was using a power washer for the past two hours. Police went to the scene but were unable to hear any power washers.

May 1

3:42 a.m. – An employee of 7-Eleven on Miller Ave. reported that a possibly drunk man in his 50s was sitting in front of the store and yelling for the past 30 minutes.

6:38 a.m. – A resident of Upper Alcatraz Place complained that the delivery man for either the Marin Independent Journal or the San Francisco Chronicle struck his gray Toyota Camry, which was parked on the street. There were no witnesses.

May 1

7:35 a.m. – A resident of Kipling Dr. reported that two men were trying to break into her home before seeing her and running away.

9:22 a.m. – An employee of the Tamalpais Pet Hospital on East Blithedale Ave. reported finding a section of window missing with footprints in the area. The employee did not what, if anything, had been stolen. The employee said they had an alarm go off a few days before but didn’t notice the missing piece of window. The suspects removed the glass and entered the hospital from the roof.

12:40 p.m. – A large truck bottomed out on Helens Lane at Wildomar Street, forcing police to close Wildomar at Edgewood Avenue for a short period of time.

4:41 p.m. – A resident of Meadow Rd. returned home to find her gate open and saw that her laptop was missing when she went inside.

May 2

5:12 p.m. – Police received a call from a driver who said that she was run off the road near the police station and the other driver took off. The driver who reported the incident was disconnected. Police contacted the other driver. Due to conflicted statements that were given, and the fact that the cars did not actually collide, officers were unable to determine a cause of the incident or whether the other party was even involved. There appeared to be no merit to the claim.

6:32 p.m. – A resident of the 100 block of Woodbine Dr. reported that there was a large, basketball-sized sinkhole in the middle of the road and the driver was unable to go around it. Police determined that cars could pass around the hole safely and called the Public Works Department.

May 4

1:45 p.m. – A resident of Hillside Ave. reported that 12 antique dinner plates were stolen from her garage. She said she heard a noise and saw a woman across the street but didn’t realize at the time that the plates had been taken.

2:06 p.m. – Police received a complaint that a school bus parked in the 500 block of Redwood Hwy. was making it hard to see traffic coming.

4:35 p.m. – A resident of Sycamore Ave. reported that she came home to find that her home had been burglarized, as two gates outside her home were open and her two dogs that were left inside were now outside. There was no evidence of a burglary or an attempted burglary, and police determined that the doors had been left unlocked and the dogs got outside.

6:34 p.m. – A party in the 500 block of Summit Ave. incurred a complaint that 10 cars were parked blocking one lane of the road. Some of the cars had been moved when police arrived, and the on-site valet service agreed to notify the other owners to move their cars.

May 5

11:52 a.m. – A resident went to the police station to report finding a flier on the bike path that mentions terrorism.

12:24 pm. – The owner of a black Honda CRV reported that his car was burglarized in the parking lot at 250 Camino Alto. Nothing was taken but the front passenger window was smashed and coffee was spilled on the floor of the car. The glove compartment and the center console were left open.

May 6

8:21 a.m. – A resident reported seeing a woman in her 30s with long dark curly hair and driving an olive green Toyota Sienna talking on the phone and nearly hitting a child on the crosswalk in the 400 block of Sycamore Avenue. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the driver.
