Mud Slide on Ethel Forces Evacuation

Road reopened by Saturday evening.

A mud slide on Ethel Avenue around noon Saturday prompted the evacuation of a number of houses on the lower end of the hill as a precautionary measure.

The road was closed throughout the afternoon as crews worked to clear the mud and shore up the hillside. Although work was still being done as of Saturday evening, the road reopened after a few houses.

"Nothing was destroyed," said Mill Valley Sgt. Gulsch.

The slide occurred in the area of 143 Ethel Ave. and was caused, according to police, by the heavy saturation from the recent rain storms throughout the area. Rain battered Mill Valley again Saturday afternoon, as the crews worked to finish the clean up.

By late evening, all but one household that had evacuated had returned. And, no property damage was reported.
