More Than $10,000 in Bicycles Stolen

Rash of thefts of pricey bikes continues. This week's roundup of police activities also includes a theft of an iron sculpture, a strange case of vandalism and a misplaced 2014 Mercedes.





July 16

10:06 a.m. – A silver Specialized Stumpjumper mountain bike that was unlocked and leaning up against a house in the 300 block of East Blithedale Ave. was reported stolen. The bike was valued at $1,500.

2:35 p.m. – Police received a report later in the day that a blue and white Specialized Stumpjumper mountain bike was taken from outside the Safeway on Camino Alto. The bike was valued at $2,700.

3:12 p.m. – An employee at Smash Burger in the Alto shopping center reported that a co-worker stole her iPhone 5 in a light blue case. The employee told police that she preferred to handle the matter internally and would update police.

8:38 p.m. – A resident of Amacita Ave. reported that a neighbor’s car was vandalized, with someone smashing the windows. The resident told police that the incident happened on the street because the glass was all over the street and the seat of the car. Police went to the scene and contacted the car’s owner, who said that a burglary and theft had occurred in San Francisco.

July 17

8:09 a.m. – Someone stole an iron sculpture from a home in the 400 block of Molino Ave.

9:18 p.m. – Police received a report that four people stole a “large number of items” from the Rite Aid in the Alto shopping center.

July 18

6:18 p.m. – A resident of the 600 block of Miller Ave. reported that someone deflated or slashed three of the four tires on her car and out a “creepy card on her door with an inappropriate picture” on it. The caller said the likely perpetrator was a man on whom she’d recently got a restraining order.

July 21

7:23 a.m. – A resident of Hillside Ave. reported that his black 2014 Mercedes had been stolen from down the street sometime between 6:30 p.m. the previous day and now. Police later determined that the car was parked on Buena Vista Ave. – no theft.

3:25 p.m. – A bike valued at $4,000 was reported stolen from outside the Whole Foods Market in the Alto shopping center within the past five minutes. Police checked the area for possible thieves but were unable to locate any.

4:18 p.m. – A gray and red Specialized mountain bike was stolen from the back of a car outside the Whole Foods Market on Miller Avenue. The bike was valued at $2,500.
