A 54-year-old Mill Valley man faces two felony charges and is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident on Highway 101 Sunday afternoon in San Rafael, the California Highway Patrol said.
Marc Anthony Siciliano was booked into Marin County Jail at 5:22 p.m. and faces felony charges of hit and run with the result of injury or death and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs while causing injury, according to the booking log.
Two cars were heading southbound on 101 at about 1:30 p.m. when they collided just south of the central San Rafael onramp, said CHP Officer John Short. Siciliano swerved into the left side of another car, driving both cars into a metal divider before they stopped near the right-hand railing on the side of the road, according to an account the man in the second car gave to the CHP.
The man said Siciliano got out of the car, took a look at the damage, then jumped back into his car and sped off, according to the CHP report.
Eyewitnesses said Siciliano pulled off at the Bellam Boulevard exit of Highway 580 and stopped in the parking lot of the Marin Square shopping center, then got into another person’s car and left with another driver.
Short said witnesses gave CHP officers a description the car and the information was passed along to the San Rafael police department. Police officers spotted the car heading northbound on Highway 101 and pursued it until it got off at the North San Pedro exit and was stopped on Ranch Drive.
CHP officers interviewed Siciliano and “observed the fact that he had a distinctive odor of alcohol on his breath,” Short said, and he was arrested.
The second man involved in the crash sustained arm and back injuries, Short said. He was treated and released from Marin General Hospital, he said.
