A man who was shot by police officers in San Francisco Friday is suspected of fatally stabbing his mother in her Marin City home earlier in the evening, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Carlos Aldana, a 22-year-old Marin City resident, has been identified as the man who was shot by U.S. Park Police officers around 11:15 p.m. in San Francisco as he got off a Golden Gate Transit from Marin County, according to Lt. Jamie Scardina.

Aldana is the son of Rosa Aldana, 44, who was found dead at her home in Marin City Friday evening.

Rosa Aldana was found after a person who shares her home on Cole Drive near Drake Avenue returned home around 11:10 p.m. and found the living room completely covered in blood, Scardina said.

The resident left the apartment and went to a neighbor's home to call 911, Scardina said.

Deputies entered the residence and found a woman in a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Despite CPR efforts, the 44-year-old woman was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene, according to Scardina.

Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol received a report of male covered in blood and in possession of a knife boarding a Golden Gate Transit bus. He boarded the San Francisco-bound bus at the Donahue Street bus stop in Marin City, Scardina said.

The bus continued traveling on U.S. Highway 101 to San Francisco, where U.S. Park Police located the bus at Fillmore and Chestnut streets.

At about 11:15 p.m., U.S. Park Police officers located the suspect as he was getting off the bus, Scardina said.

He threatened the officers with a knife and the officers fired their weapons, striking him several times.

The suspect, who has since been identified as Carlos Aldana, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he is being treated for multiple gun shot wounds. He was in serious, but stable condition as of this morning, Scardina said.

Detectives from the Marin County Sheriff's Office responded to San Francisco and identified him as the suspect in Rosa Aldana's stabbing.

Carlos Aldana is currently under hospital guard, and will be booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of murder after he is medically cleared.
