Marin City Man Arrested in Novato for Alleged Attempted Murder

Duane Warren Jackson, who was wanted after an incident last weekend, was caught during a DUI stop Wednesday night, police say.

A man who was the subject of an all-points bulletin for an attempted murder in Marin City was apprehended Wednesday night in a DUI arrest, Novato police said.

Duane Warren Jackson, 42, of Marin City was pulled over by Novato police at 7:42 p.m. at the Burger King in Ignacio after someone reported an erratic driver, Sgt. Sasha D'Amico said. Officers determined that he had been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, gave him a field sobriety test — which he failed — and arrested him at 8:08 p.m., D'Amico said.

Jackson bolted from officers for a short distance before being caught in the parking lot, then put up a fight during the handcuffing process, the sergeant said. He provided a a false identity and then threatened to kill an officer and a Marin County Sheriff's deputy during a medical check at Novato Community Hospital.

The stabbing victim, who was Jackson's roommate, said he argued with Jackson earlier in the evening, which matched accounts from other witnesses. It was reported that Jackson kicked in the roommate's bedroom door and attacked him with a knife in each hand. The man fought off Jackson and ran out of the residence before being stabbed, deputies said.

The stabbing victim was transported to Marin General Hospital by paramedics.

Jackson faces felony charges of attempted murder and obstructing an executive officer plus misdemeanors of DUI, giving false identity to an officer and resisting arrest.
