Man Using Illegal Fireworks Starts Brush Fire, Burns Kitten

A man started a brush fire in the Marin Headlands Tuesday afternoon. Fireworks are illegal in all of Marin. Call 911 to report the use of fireworks.

 

A man using illegal fireworks was to blame for starting a brush fire in the Marin Headlands Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Park Service.

A kitten was slightly burned during the incident, according to the Marin IJ. The kitten was taken to a shelter.

At 2:45 p.m., firefighters from Marin County and the NPS responded to reports of fire on Slacker Hill near Conzelman Road in the Marin Headlands region of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, NPS spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet said.

The blaze was reported by a GGNRA visitor and quickly contained by firefighters, Picavet said.

About one-half an acre was burned and no one was injured.

A 40-year-old San Francisco man was taken into custody and booked into Marin County jail on multiple charges including arson, Picavet said.

Parks officials reminded the public that fireworks are illegal throughout the GGNRA and all of Marin, and anyone reporting a fire or the use of fireworks should call 911.
