A 26-year-old Sacramento man who was visiting his family was shot in Marin City early Friday morning, a Marin County sheriff's lieutenant says.

The unidentified man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken by his family to Marin General Hospital, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

The sheriff's office received 911 calls around 2:10 a.m. about gunshots in the area of Cole Drive and Drake Avenue.

"Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and located several spent rounds in the area of the 200 Courtyard/30 Lot in Marin City," Scardina said.

About a half hour later, the hospital notified the sheriff's office that a family had taken a gunshot victim to the ER, Scardina said.

"Family members have indicated the victim was shot while walking in Marin City," Scardina said.  "The victim is currently being treated in the ICU."

Detectives are trying to interview the family members and witnesses, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's office at (415) 479-2311 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
