Man Racks Up $5,000 Motel Bill

In this week's Police Blotter, a guy who had been staying at Travelodge since July is arrested on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper. Arrests do no indicate conviction.

September 6

7:31 a.m. – A resident of West Blithedale Ave. reported seeing a 20-year-old man hallucinating and wearing bandages and being held down by a neighbor in the driveway. The young man reportedly resisted the neighbor after coming up from the creek and saying he needed to go to the bathroom. A police officer determined that the young man was missing from a mental health facility. He was cooperative and transported to a nearby hospital.

10:05 a.m. – An employee of the motel on Redwood Hwy. called police for advice regarding a guest who had been staying there since July, racking up a $5,000 bill that he said he was unable to pay. Police officers responded and arrested the man on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper and took him to Marin County Jail.

8:40 p.m. – Someone reportedly entered a Marion Ave. home during the day, possibly through an unlocked front door, and stole bottles of valium and vicodin from the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Police are investigating.

10:03 a.m. – Someone at reported that vandalism was committed at the school’s pool at 7 p.m. the day before and the reported vandalism was caught by a surveillance camera. The caller turned over information about the suspect on the footage to a police officer.

8:52 p.m. - A resident of Throckmorton Ave. called police to report that a solicitor for the California Water Bond, which will be on the ballot in Nov. 2012, knocked on his door. The caller reported to police that when he told the solicitor that it was 8:30 at night, the subject said, “What’s your point, sir?” The resident told police that he wanted to put on his gym shorts and run after the guy. A police officer advised the resident that the solicitors for the Clean Water Act have approval from the city to go door-to-door seeking support. The officer also provided info to police dispatch in case other residents called to complain. 

September 9

1:40 p.m. – A resident of Thoreau Circle reported seeing six fraudulent charges on his debit card/checking account totaling $250. All of the charges were made in the Los Angeles area at grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants.

6:52 p.m. – A resident called police to report that a car with “graffiti all over it” was in the parking lot near downtown and it looked suspicious. Police checked out the vehicle and found nothing suspicious.

September 10

5:31 a.m. – A resident of Sarah Drive reported that a man with a British accent was sleeping in his car in her driveway. The caller said she was leaving to go out of town but wanted police to go by and make sure the man had left. A police officer responded and found that the man was gone.

1:05 p.m. – A resident of Locust Ave. reported finding a box of .25 caliber ammunition at work in the East Bay and wanted to turn it over to police. An officer took the ammunition into custody for destruction.

2:29 p.m. – A man who was working in the garden at reporting finding a syringe there. An officer responded and took the needle for destruction.

September 12

9:10 a.m. – A resident of Kilmer Court reported that he was contacted by Wells Fargo Bank and told that his debit/Visa card was fraudulently used, with charges totaling $700 from a liquor store and Ikea. The stability of the Ikea furniture constructed after the liquor consumption had not been determined by the time of this report. 

3:23 p.m. – A resident reported that her car was taken from the Tam High school parking lot during the day. An officer arrived at the lot and was given a description of the vehicle. The officer located the car in the Safeway parking lot across the street. Oversight by owner.
