Keyed Cars, a $10,000 Bike Theft and a Purple Harley Racing Down the Sidewalk

This week's roundup of police activities also includes several cases of identity theft, hit-and-runs and petty theft.

May 14
8:51 a.m. – Police received additional info from a Shelley Dr. resident who reported that someone had transferred money out of her personal bank accounts, and had also opened Discover and Babies "R" Us credit card accounts in her name. Police took a report.

2:17 p.m. – A resident of Lovell Ave. filed a report that someone was using her identity to open a fraudulent credit card account with Victoria’s Secret, and that she’d received an outstanding bill for more than $700.

2:23 p.m. – A resident reported seeing a group of teens break into a vehicle in the Whole Foods Market parking lot on Miller Ave. and drive off down Miller towards Tam High. Police took a report.

6:51 p.m. – An employee of the Mill Valley Community Center told police that her Toyota RAV4 was keyed, possibly by a teen that was told to leave the facility earlier in the day. The employee told police that a group of teens told her that her car was hit by a baseball but she believed it was actually a key.

May 15
3:03 p.m. – A resident of Coronet Ave. reported seeing a school bus sideswipe her white Volkswagen Jetta outside her home, causing moderate damage. The resident reached out to a supervisor at the bus company.

May 16
1:59 p.m. – A resident of Buena Vista Ave. reported that his Mercedes sedan was keyed, likely by a neighbor on whom the resident had called police for them to give his van a ticket for parking too long on the street. The man told police that his wife was home and was able to point to the house where the likely perpetrator lives. Police determined that there was no evidence indicating the neighbor keyed the car. 

3:44 p.m. – A student at Tam High locked his black mountain bike on a rack in the drop-off area of the campus near the flagpole in the morning, only to return after school to find the bike gone and the lock cut and left behind.

3:56 p.m. – After seeing her white Land Rover get struck by a dark blue sedan while parked on Corte Madera Ave. at Gardner St. – with the other driver not stopping after the incident – a resident took a picture of the car, including the license plate. The two drivers later connected and exchanged info.

May 17
3:49 p.m. – After seeing a man riding a purple Harley Davidson motorcycle at approximately 40moh down the sidewalk on East Blithedale Ave. at Elm Ave., a resident called police out of concern for pedestrian safety. Police were unable to locate the purple Harley.

5:27 p.m. – Someone stole the tailgate of a pickup truck parked in the 400 block of Miller Ave.

11:07 p.m. – An employee of the Balboa Café called police to report that someone had stolen a customer’s leather jacket from the coat check at the restaurant.

May 18
8:56 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on East Bithedale and Locust avenues after a resident spotted a green Honda weaving in and out of the traffic and swerving into the bike lane and nearly hitting a cyclist.        

5:28 p.m. – A $10,000 bike was reported stolen from the bike rack on a blue Toyota 4Runner parked outside the 2am Club. Bolt cutters were used to extricate the bike from the rack. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the bike or any suspects.
