In the Face of a Rash of Bike Thefts, Mill Valley Police Tout Bike Lock Expert

Law enforcement authorities hope educating residents on how to lock a bike properly will help reduce the number of bike thefts in town.

Facing another spate of bicycle thefts in recent weeks, Mill Valley Police are hoping to spread the word that locking your bike – and doing so wisely – is essential to combating bike thieves.

Police sent out an email blast Tuesday, noting the rash of thefts and directing residents to a pair of videos (above) from New York City bike mechanic and bike lock expert Hal Ruzal. The videos were provided by Elisabeth Thomas-Matej, a member of the city's Mill Valley Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

Watch the videos above or at the links below, and let us know in the Comments if the Ruzal's advice on how to properly lock a bike is news to you or common knowledge.
