How You Can Help San Bruno Fire Victims

Blood Centers of the Pacific and Red Cross Bay Area are seeking donations.

A gas line explosion around 6:30 p.m. last night in San Bruno led to a fire killing .

Do you have family or friends affected by the disaster? Help local victims with donations.

Blood Centers of the Pacific is issuing an emergency appeal for blood donations, particularly of Type O negative, to replenish the supply currently being depleted by those injured in yesterday's explosion and fire in San Bruno. The centers have a donation facility on Redwood Blvd. in San Rafael.

Area hospitals are requiring significant amounts of Type O negative blood -- the type that can be given to anyone in an emergency.

Call 1-888-393-GIVE to donate blood. All centers normally open today will stay open an extra two hours for people who want to donate today.

Red Cross Bay Area is requesting monetary donations, not supplies or food. Make donations at their website. The Tongan United Methodist Church on El Camino in San Bruno is also accepting donations of help, clothes, and toiletries. You can also donate any goods for victims of the fire at any Bay Area Salvation Army store.

If you need Red Cross help call 1-888-4-HELP-BAY or register online at Safe and Well.

Tragedies and disaster can strike anywhere. Be prepared in your own home and neighborhood, should we be the victims of a fire here. The Mill Valley Emergency Preparedness Commission offers a wide range of tips and training.
