Highway 1 Repairs Slow Traffic

More than a year after a massive mudslide near Erica Road, road crews are putting in guardrails, constructing a retaining wall and repaving the roadway.

Caltrans crews are continuing repairs on a section of Highway 1 near Tam Valley this week, slowing traffic in both directions.

One-way traffic control is expected be in place throughout the week on Highway 1 between Panoramic Highway and West California Drive, according to Caltrans. The repairs are needed in the aftermath of a in March 2011.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to the coast, such as Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Crews are replacing drainage guardrails, constructing a retaining wall and repaving the roadway.

Caltrans expects to be able to open the roadway for two-way traffic on the weekend, though one-way traffic will be back in place on May 21.

The emergency road work is expected to be complete by Memorial Day weekend.
