Hidden Encampment Starts Fire in San Rafael

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, San Rafael Firefighters made quick work of a vegetation fire that was started in open space, just east of the 2900 block of Kerner Blvd.

According to department reports, the fire appears to have started in an encampment by a BBQ located amongst tinder dry brush.

The fire was limited to quarter-acre, and fortunately no one was injured.  A total of nine San Rafael Firefighters responded to the incident and were assisted by the San Rafael Police Dept.

The City and Property owners continue to address encampments to help ensure safety throughout the community.
