Grocery Clerk Pleads Not Guilty to Lewd Conduct

Whole Foods employee is accused of making in appropriate comments and kissing the hand of a 15-year-old girl.

A Whole Foods Market grocery clerk pleaded not guilty Thursday morning of alleged lewd behavior toward a 15-year-old girl last month outside the store.

Andrew Meyers, a 48-year-old Mill Valley resident,  by Mill Valley Police on suspicion of making inappropriate comments and kissing the hand of a 15-year-old girl.

The girl told police that Meyers, whom she had met previously, made a series of inappropriate comments to her at Whole Foods on Feb. 7, and she walked out of the store. The girl said Meyers contacted her in the parking lot, made lewd comments to her and asked if he could kiss her. She declined and tried to leave, and Meyers grabbed the girl's and kissed her hand, according to police.

Charges of lewd and lascivious acts cover a range of behaviors, but Dunkel characterized the allegation in this case as an “annoying or harassing situation” of a lewd nature. The charge generally falls short of alleged sexual contact of assault.

Police arrested Meyers at Whole Foods two days later, and he is out on bail.

Marin Superior Court Judge Paul Haakenson set a May 25 preliminary hearing in the case.
