Emergency Sirens to Sound at Noon on Tiburon Peninsula

If you happen to be in the area and hear the sirens, don't be alarmed.

By Bay City News Service:

Emergency responders on the Tiburon Peninsula will test six emergency notification sirens for the first time at noon today.

The one-minute air raid wailing sound will replace the "ambulance sound" of the two previous sirens, said Laurie K. Nilsen, emergency services coordinator of the Tiburon and Belvedere Office of Emergency Services.

Four of the six sirens are new, Nilsen said.

Residents of the Tiburon Peninsula formerly tuned in to the Belvedere Emergency Alert Radio Station, BEARS 840 AM, to learn more details about an emergency when the sirens were activated. They now will tune into the new Siren Notification Alerting the Peninsula, SNAP 840 AM, radio station located on a hill in Tiburon, Nilsen said.

The new radio information station reaches a larger geographic area on the Peninsula, and can be heard farther north in Hamilton on a clear day, Nilsen said. The station will stream online into computers and mobile devices in the near future, Nilsen said.

Peninsula residents can sign up for electronic notifications via their email, cell phones, home phones, office phones and text messages at AlertMarin.org The six sirens are located at the Bel Aire School at 277 Karen Way, Fire Station 10 at 4301 Paradise Drive, the Del Mar School at 105 Avenida Miraflores, the Corporation Yard at 199 Kleinert Way, Fire Station 11 at 1679 Tiburon Blvd. and at Sanitary District #5 on Paradise Drive.
