Barking Dogs Abound and a $5,000 Purse Is Stolen - and Found

Feb. 14

1:37 p.m. – A local resident called police to report that her ex-boyfriend had texted her en route to the Golden Gate Bridge to reportedly jump off of it. The man was apparently distraught over losing his girlfriend. Police later learned that the man was staying with a friend in Bolinas and that he was OK and not headed to the bridge. Sheriff’s deputies went to the home where the man was staying to check on his status.

4:36 p.m. – A resident of Throckmorton Ave. reported an ongoing problem with a neighbor’s barking dog. The dog barked on and off throughout the day, the resident told police. The complaint was the first of several police received over the past week.

8:24 p.m. – A resident of Hazel Ave. reported a dog barking nearby for the past two hours. The dog, a German Shepherd, is friendly but barks a lot, the resident said. Police went to the home but didn’t hear the dog. An officer advised the dog’s owner of the complaint.

Feb. 15

3:17 p.m. – A driver on Camino Alto reported to police that a young girl was texting while driving a black BMW, twice almost hitting the car belonging to the reporting party. 

10:48 p.m. – A girl learning to drive on Shelter Bay Ave. mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the car careening into a tree, which fell down and hit a parked car. Both parties are Shelter Bay residents and agreed to inform the condo manager of the fallen tree.

Feb. 16

12:51 a.m. – A man called police to report that a woman had dragged him out of the , literally. Police are investigating a possible assault and battery.

4:19 p.m. – A resident called police after her $5,000 purse was stolen from her shopping cart at on East Blithdale. Police are investigating the theft in connection with a 30-year-old Petaluma man who was arrested this week on suspicion of purse thefts in San Rafael, Novato and elsewhere in Marin.

6:51 p.m. – A 1998 Volvo station wagon was stolen from the parking lot at sometime between noon and 4 p.m. The car’s owner, a Nevada City resident, said the keys were in the vehicle.

8:42 p.m. – A man went the police station to turn in the woman’s purse that he found on the roadside near Whole Foods Market on East Blithedale. The purse reportedly had been ditched by the thief from the incident earlier in the day.

8:48 p.m. – A resident called police to report hearing a couple yelling at one another, including a man screaming, “Get the f*** out of the car b****!” Police arrested the women on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

Feb. 17

8:26 a.m. – A resident of Park Terrace reported that his neon green Ibis Szazbo road bike, valued at as much as $1,500, was stolen from his front porch, with the thief cutting a cable lock on the bike. 

9:10 a.m. – The parent of a student reported that his son’s PE locker was broken into at the school the day before and his iPhone 4G was stolen. The phone had an estimated value of $700. 

1:00 p.m. – A resident of Marguerite Ave., along with several of his neighbors, filed a formal complaint regarding a dog that has been barking and howling since 8:30 a.m. Police planned to issue a citation when the owners of the dog returned home. 

1:59 a.m. – A resident of Miller Ave. reported an ongoing problem with a neighbor boarding up to seven dogs in her home and allowing the dogs to bark and cry throughout the day and night. The problem was usually worse on the weekends, the neighbor reported. The neighbor declined to have police issue a citation right away and said she would pursue mediation first.

10:14 p.m. – A resident of Marion Ave. called police to report a dog that had been barking for several hours in a nearby backyard. The resident believed a neighbor had left the gone away and left the dog outside.

Feb. 18

2:16 a.m. – Following a report of a theft of a Sony Playstation from a residence on Sterling Court, police received a report on assault by a group of juveniles on another group over the alleged theft.

8:49 a.m. – A resident of Vista Linda Dr. reported that his car was vandalized over the previous night, with three tires flattened and a door damaged.

2:18 p.m. – A resident of Marguerite Ave. reported that a neighbor’s dog has been barking for the past 7 hours. The residents filed a formal complaint. An officer looked into it and determined that the homeowners were out of town for the weekend and that a housekeeper was caring for the animal. Police advised the housekeeper on city law regarding barking dogs.

Feb. 19

11:01 a.m. – A resident of Woodside Lane reported that a neighbor’s dog was barking and running back and forth along the fence.

2:53 p.m. – A resident of Marsh Road reported that a neighbor’s dog has been barking for the past hour in an ongoing issue with the neighbor. 

Feb. 20

8:54 a.m. – A resident reported that someone used a key to carve obscene images into his car, which was parked outside the .  

5:03 p.m. – Police received a report of a possible driving under the influence incident, with a car going 15 mph on East Blithedale Ave and Camino Alto. Police contacted the driver and determined that she had been driving slow because she had several dogs in the back of the mini-van and the dogs were jumping around.
