Police Blotter: Shoplifting and Auto Burglaries

Selected reports from the Gilroy Police Department from Thursday through Sunday.


7:30 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed a car window and stole an Apple iPad, cell phone, Sony PSP video game and  a black bag. The car was a Dodge Charger parked in the area of Fifth Street and Monterey Street.

11 a.m. Unknown suspects broke into an Infiniti and stole the victim's purse, which included $150. The suspects also keyed the passenger side of the vehicle. The incident occurred in the area of Alexander Street and East Sixth Street.

8:28 p.m. Four women attempted to steal approximately $400 worth of clothing from the Walmart on Camino Arroyo. The women were stopped by the store's loss prevention agent. One woman was released to medical personnel and another was released to care for the children she had with her. The other two were booked into jail.


5 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the window on a Nissan Altima and stole a laptop bag. The car was parked in the area of Laurel Drive and Third Street.


9 a.m. Three suspects entered a store and stole five HP Probook Laptops, valued at $1,000 each.

1 p.m. Police were called to a home on Liman Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance. A couple was involved in a physical argument and both parties sustained injuries.

1:20 p.m. A student was arrested for possession of marijuana on campus.

1:33 p.m. Police responded to a report of a shoplifter at a store on East Tenth Street. The recovered items were valued at $58.59.

2:43 p.m. Police responded to a DUI crash at the corner of Monterey Street and Second Street. The car involved was a 1999 Ford.

2:52 p.m. A suspect stole a light green and white Huffy Cranbrook bicycle from the Walmart at Camino Arroyo.

9:31 p.m. Five unknown suspects attacked two victims who were walking back from 7-11. The attack occurred near Church Street and West Tenth Street. Both victims sustained bruises to their faces and heads. Police believe the incident might have been gang related.

11:32 p.m. A man was arrested on Eigleberry Street as he was trying to enter various apartments through their windows. Police report the man was intoxicated and he was arrested without incident.


5 p.m. An unknown suspect stole a 5,000-watt generator, chainsaws and a blower from a store on Murray Avenue. The total loss is estimated to be $3,000.

5 p.m. A victim reported all four tires were slashed on his 1987 Honda Accord. The car was parked on Alexander Street at the time.

8:54 p.m. Three suspects grabbed five pairs of sunglasses from a store on Leavesley Road and escaped in a black Audi.

11:20 a.m. An unknown male followed a 15-year-old female as she was walking to school. At one point, the suspect got out of his car and asked the girl her name.
