Are Burglaries on the Rise in Marin?

Police prioritize investigations and issue warnings after reports of a rash of commercial and residential burglaries in southern Marin.

Facing a rash of commercial and residential burglaries, police in Sausalito and Mill Valley are prioritizing burglary investigations and issuing a number of tips and warning to residents and local business owners.

Two days after Mill Valley Police issued warnings and tips on the heels of a rash of burglaries, Sausalito Police have done the same.

The five commercial burglaries in Sausalito occurred on Bridgeway, Libertyship Way and Caledonia Street, Lt. Kurtis Skoog said.

The burglars took $3,000 in cash from registers and two iPods. They smashed windows at three of the businesses and entered through unlocked doors at the other two, Skoog said.

The residential burglaries occurred on Currey Lane, Booker Avenue, Marin Avenue and Santa Rosa Avenue. The burglars broke windows or pried open a sliding glass door at three of the residences and entered the fourth through an unlocked front door, Skoog said.

Officers are patrolling the affected areas, checking potential witnesses and reviewing security camera images to identify suspects, Skoog said.

Police are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods or in commercial areas by calling 911 or (415) 289-4170.

Merchants are advised to remove cash from registers and secure it in a safe overnight. Residents and merchants should make sure doors and windows are locked and alarms are activated before they leave, Skoog said.
