Allegedly Drunk Sausalito Man Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Michael McGowan, 32, was ejected from his motorcycle while turning onto the Rodeo Avenue off-ramp while riding northbound on Highway 101 Friday afternoon. He was taken to Marin General Hospital where he was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

A 32-year-old man suffered major injuries while allegedly riding his motorcycle while intoxicated on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Sausalito Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 2:25 p.m. Michael McGowan was riding his 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle on northbound Highway 101 when he turned onto the Rodeo Avenue off-ramp, CHP officials said. He apparently took the turn at a high rate of speed and wasn't able to negotiate the right-hand curve, officials said.

The motorcycle went into a dirt area and McGowan was ejected and came to rest near the motorcycle. Emergency personnel responded and found McGowan with serious injuries.

He was taken to Marin General Hospital where he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Because of his major injuries he was released into the care and custody of the hospital with a follow-up court date. CHP officials said McGowan allegedly was not licensed to drive a motorcycle on the highway.

The northbound Rodeo Avenue off-ramp was shut down for about 45 minutes after the crash, CHP officials said.
