A Depot Coffee Ruined by Power Tools and a Surge in Prom Night Noise Gripes

This week's roundup of police activities is all about decibels.

April 23

11:29 a.m. – A resident of West Blithedale Ave. called police to report the use of a gas-powered leaf blower in the area. Police went to the scene and saw a landscaping crew in the area but no one was using a leaf blower.

2:10 p.m. – A parent of a Tam High student reported to police that her daughter’s iPhone 5 was stolen from the girls’ bathroom at school. The daughter was able to identify the suspect and the school’s security guard got the phone back. The parent wanted to file a formal police report.

2:47 p.m. – The owner of a silver Mercedes received a parking ticket outside Peet’s on Throckmorton Ave. downtown and was so adamant that the meter had not expired that she requested a police officer to come to the scene.

7:07 p.m. – A resident of the Alto neighborhood called police to complain about loud music in the area. Police went to Edna Maguire School and determined that a 7th and 8th grade play was occurring with permission.

April 25

1:52 p.m. – A resident called police to complain that he could not get to his residence because a large truck was parked in the middle of Janes Street at Sunrise Avenue. Police went to the scene and determined that there was no merit to the complaint.

April 26

2:35 p.m. – A Tam High student reported that his Felt full suspension mountain bike was stolen from outside the school sometime between 8 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. The bike was locked outside the school gym and the lock had been cut, according to the report. The bike was worth $1,000.

7:10 p.m. – A resident called police to report seeing a teenage girl driving recklessly in a light blue BMW 2D series, speeding and swerving and almost hitting the person who called police. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Marguerite Ave., but police were unable to locate the car.

7:12 p.m. – Someone stole a driver’s license, credit cards and $93 in cash from the back of a Mini Cooper parked at the Mill Valley Community Center. The owner told police that he thought the car was locked but there was no sign of forced entry.

April 27

12:41 p.m. – A patron at the Depot Bookstore & Café called police to report that someone in the area was using power tools in the area. The person told police that she wanted the power tool user to close their windows so that people at the café “could enjoy their coffee.”

3:46 p.m. – Five Asian males were playing guitars and drums on the Depot Plaza, and a person in the area called police to say that they needed to be “a little more quiet.” The person who called police refused to give police any contact info. Police determined that there was no municipal code violation and no victim for the disturbing the peace complaint.

9:10 p.m. – A resident of the 100 block of Eldridge Ave. reported that neighbors were playing music and being loud in the hot tub. Police determined that there was a small swim party with kids and that no violation had occurred.

9:38 p.m. – Police were called to a home on La Goma St. at Miller Ave. on a report of loud music. Police advised the residents to turn the music down.

April 28

1:13 a.m. – Police were called to a home on the 200 block of Cascade Dr. on a complaint of loud music in the area. Police went to the home and found a small Tam High Junior-Senior Prom after-party with adult residents on the premises. The residents agreed to keep the noise down. No noise ordinance violations had occurred.

2:09 a.m. – A resident in the area of Cascade Dr. and Wainwright Place called police to report a noise complaint at a nearby home. Police went to the home and found that party-goers were heading home.

8:32 a.m. – A resident who lives near Super Duper Burger at 430 Miller Ave. complained that someone was stealing the cardboard from behind the restaurant and that it was very loud. Police determined that there was no merit to the theft and advised the recyclers to keep the noise down.

April 29

8:37 a.m. – A former Mill Valley resident reported that a check was taken out of his former Mill Valley address and cashed for $1,069.
