UPDATED: 2 Injured in Shooting Outside Club 101

No arrests made as of early Friday morning, but investigation continues.

Two men were injured in a shooting outside a busy nightclub in San Rafael early Friday morning, according to a San Rafael Police lieutenant.

Police responded to the shooting at Club 101, at 815 Francisco Blvd. West, at about 12:45 a.m., according to San Rafael police Lt. Dan Fink.

Based on the initial police investigation, a physical altercation occurred among patrons inside the nightclub and spilled out into the club's parking lot, Fink said.

When police arrived at the nightclub, two people were found with gunshot wounds. They were transported to Marin General Hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening, Fink said.

Officers reported a crowd of possibly more than 100 people in the club's parking lot.

Fink told the Marin Independent Journal officers recovered multiple firearms at the crime scene.

Police also detained two people for unrelated violations, Fink said.

Maurice Kirkpatrick, a 23-year-old from Oakland, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed and loaded weapon and booked in lieu of $716. Lemar Durell Dean, 27, of Richmond, was arrested on the same charges, in addition to charges of being a felon or addict in possession of a firearm, and was booked into the Marin County Jail in lieu of $20,000.

Police also arrested Oakland resident Mario Antoine Williams, who listed his occupation as “home care” in the booking log, on charges of being a violent felon in possession of body armor. He was booked into the Marin County Jail in lieu of $140,000.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses but have not made arrests in connection to the shooting, according to Fink.

Police authorities from Fairfax, Sausalito, Twin Cities, Novato, Mill Valley and the Marin County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, according to the San Rafael Police.

The San Rafael investigations unit is processing evidence and investigating the case. The Novato Police Department loaned two officers and crime surveying equipment to the investigation.

San Rafael Police spokesperson Margo Rohrbacher told Patch it doesn’t appear the shooting was related to the Nov. 13 shooting in downtown San Rafael when a man was shot in the back and two suspects were arrested.

Police don’t know if the recent Club 101 shooting has a gang component, Rohrbacher said.

To those who think Mike and Julie are racist....I think Mike and Julie want to live somewhere where they can feel safe. For anyone who lives in Central San Rafael or "Southern" San Rafael, this is not the case anymore. Everywhere we frequent for shopping, banking, or otherwise, we have to worry about getting hit by a random bullet.

Really what we could do it set up some kind group or agency that would enforce laws and make sure that those who broke them would be prosecuted accordingly. At the same time, citizens would be responisble for abiding those laws while living within this community. Those who do the crime do the time. Of course laws are subject to review and endorcement from some kind of governing body. If someone is in fact innocent of the crime, it would be up to those who enforce those laws to prove that the law was in fact broken. I wonder why we don't just do this in the first place?
