Choose Your Own Adventure this Summer at the Mill Valley Public Library

This summer at the Mill Valley Library, we’re encouraging high school students to "Choose Your Own Adventure!" Throughout the school year, teenagers are bombarded with required reading, so the Choose Your Own Adventure summer reading program is a chance for them to relax and read whatever interests them. Just by reading the books of their choice, they can win prizes like an iPad Mini, gift certificates to Sol Food, Grillys, and other local establishments.

How can one participate in this awesome program? Simply sign-up for the Choose Your Own Adventure program online or at the library. Then, pick up a reading passport at the library Reference Desk. As they read, participants will write the title of each book in their passport to document their summer reading journey. When a participant has finished a book, s/he can bring the passport to the Library to get a stamp and a raffle ticket.

If participants want help deciding what to read, our bevy of book lists might help. Teens (regardless of if they are participating in the Summer Reading Program or not) are also welcome to make an appointment with Katie, the Young Adult Librarian, and she will create a personalized reading list for any teen who wants one.

On August 18th, we will have a “Final Adventure” party in the Outdoor Amphitheater behind the Library. In addition to free Sol Food and a slam poetry performance, we will have the raffle drawing for the Choose Your Own Adventure prizes! (You do not have to be present to win a prize.) Registration is recommended, and you can sign up here. Check out the pictures from the last Summer Reading Raffle Drawing Party here.

Over summer, we’ll have a variety of fun and free events, such as slam poetry workshops and book clubs, that are open to all high school students, including rising freshmen and recent graduates. Be sure to check http://www.millvalleylibrary.net/youngadults/ for more information and details about other programs for teens.
