Randy Kaplan Brings His Not-Just-for-Kids Music to the Library

Mill Valley, Calif.—The Mill Valley Public Library will open its doors early March 2nd for a “Sunday Special” featuring Randy Kaplan, an acclaimed singer/songwriter whose eclectic tunes have generated a fan base that includes both kids and their parents. Kaplan will take the stage at 11 am in the Library’s Main Reading Room with a rollicking live show featuring Tin Pan Alley gems, Broadway numbers, Delta blues songs, and ragtime tunes, plus original compositions that blend American roots, country blues, and comedic storytelling.

Children and their families are invited to attend this Sunday Special event, which is free, no sign-up required.

Kaplan’s smart and wacky songs and his unpredictable live shows have brought him plenty of accolades. He has toured throughout the United States and has released four children’s CDs, one of which, “The Kids Are All Id,” won the prestigious Gold Award from the National Association of Parenting Publications and was voted a Top Five CD in the Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Awards. Kaplan’s latest album, “Mr. Diddie Wah Diddie,” was listed in People magazine’s “8 Cool Kids’ Albums Now!” feature.

“The Mill Valley Public Library is excited to welcome Los Angeles musician Randy Kaplan, and we're looking forward to him getting the whole room tapping their feet to the rhythm of his music,” said Children’s Librarian Jessica Ryan. “I wouldn't be surprised if the whole room was dancing by the end of the show.”

Kaplan’s performance is part of a monthly Sunday Specials series that includes fun and exciting musical and dance performances, theater productions, storytelling sessions, and much more, all aimed at children and their families. All events in the series begin at 11 am, one hour before the Library opens to the public. Sunday Specials take place either in the Main Reading Room of the Mill Valley Public Library or right behind the Library at the outdoor amphitheater in Old Mill Park.

Upcoming Sunday Specials include: Brian Scott Magic performs Biblio Spectacular on April 6th in the Main Reading Room; Pacific Boychoir on May 4th at the outdoor amphitheater in Old Mill Park; Throckmorton Theatre Youth Performers on June 15th in the Main Reading Room; and The Corner Laughers on July 20th in the Main Reading Room.
