Why Allergy Symptoms Skyrocket

According to a study completed in 2010 the number of Americans with peanut allergies tripled from 1997 to 2008!  The data was reported in the May 12, 2013, issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Further research confirms that allergies of all types are increasing as rapidly.   What is the reason for this dramatic spike in symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities?   One explanation offered is the quality of our foods and, in particular, the negative effects of genetically modified foods and processed foods.   Other factors may include the overall stress that people experience in their daily lives leading to overloading our immune systems and creating an outbreak of symptoms in the face of common daily stimuli.

As with so many other solutions in life, the remedy may be simple but difficult to implement.  I believe a commitment to eating only organic foods, grass-fed, local meats and avoiding most grains and all processed foods is a great place to start. Additionally, lifestyle changes like meditation and exercise have been proven to effect substantial positive change.  Part of the difficulty in creating vibrant health is our societal conditioning that taking a medication is the answer to most symptoms of disease and distress.

As a holistic doctor specializing in eliminating symptoms caused by allergies and sensitivities, I frequently hear patients report experiencing allergy symptoms for the first time in their lives.  These symptoms include skin rashes, asthma, fatigue as well as the more common itchy eyes and stuffy nose of hay fever.  While I am proud of my success rate, I know that long-term health depends on addressing the underlying causes which is often a healthy diet and managing daily stress.

My experience substantiates those who make it a priority to manage their stress and implement the dietary changes most appropriate for them have an easier time staying symptom free.   For more information about my work eliminating symptoms, please visit www.allergyreliefclinics.com.
