Health & Fitness

Are you still eating wheat?

Wow!  I am so excited I'm about to launch into another  dimension!  Do you watch "Foyle's War?"  (if not, you'll be happy to learn about its existence, I assure you).  Well, I feel like Foyle himself, on the edge of cracking a particularly challenging murder case...in this instance the murder's of US!  Yes, that's correct: gluten is murdering our quality of life, our very health.  It's causing that relentless brain fog, depression, MS, Parkinson's, even Alzheimers!

My own mother was just in hospital  with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) as well as Diverticulitis.  If  you read last month's letter you remember the case put forth that gluten sensitivity (NCGS) (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) is responsible for the majority of heart disease in the U.S.

As for the Diverticulitis ( inflammation of the tissues of the intestine, usually the colon).  What do you suppose my mother was fed in the hospital for her CHF & Diverticulitis?  My own mother was fed the SAD Diet in hospital: that's Standard American Diet.  Aside from being treated with antibiotics (?) she had coffee, pancakes, sugared desserts, lots of toast and sandwiches, all of least quality, as you can well imagine.

Why this particularly disturbs me is: the MD's are all over this gluten stuff.   They are responsible for the original research from the early 2000's.  Even the MD's can't make any headway into the system, as run by Big Pharma.  When will we see healthful food served in hospitals?  When will the undeniable link between nutrition and health be reflected in our cultural institutions, our schools, our hospitals?  Alas, I digress...back to inflammation.

The reason for my excitement is due to my having discovered two more heroes from The Gluten Summit:  Dave Asprey and Dr. David Perlmutter, MD.

Asprey's site, www.bulletproofexec.com is fascinating.  He's totally convinced that we can improve our health exponentially by avoiding carbs and increasing consumption of good fats (thus eliminating inflammation)(and thereby reducing allergic response!).  He makes a pretty compelling case for supplementing your morning coffee with chunks of butter from pasture-fed cows.  I've been trying it and quite enjoy the experience.  He claims it increases brain function significantly.  I am wowed by his beautiful charts expressing graphically what foods decrease inflammation in our diets and the converse.  I felt comfortable signing up for his newsletter to access more posts relevant to his discoveries and I hope you will, as well.  Here's a link to the transcript of his interview on The Gluten Summit: enjoy!    Dave Asprey interview

In addition, David Perlmutter, MD, a Board-Certified Neurologist and author of many books including the current bestselling "Grain Brain" gave further substantiation of the benefits of eating high fat/low carb.  This is a fascinating interview.  I couldn't begin to condense it so have a link for you to enjoy the entire interview and change your/your family's eating habits forever, hopefully!  Enjoy Dr. Perlmutter's interview here:

Also,  I reread Dr. Fasano's and Dr. Houston's Gluten Summit interviews and felt them to be so important I wanted you to have access to them, as well.  They are leaders in the Gluten Free health movement, if you will.  The links are here and, of course, are not for publication but the stated Gluten Summit goal was to move this information ahead by five years so by disseminating it here I'm hoping to contribute.  Please, read and pass this information on to your friends and family...it could literally save their lives!
