I Like This House - week 1, Mid-Century Fixer

This week, my favorite house is a mid-century fixer in Mill Valley's Scott Valley neighborhood.

Address: 15 Middle Court, Mill Valley
Neighborhood: Scott Valley
Price: $997,000
1,704sq ft // 3bd, 2ba

The house: Very mid-century, the current owners built the home for themselves in 1964. Now it needs updating - the kitchen, the baths, the floors, the windows - but has good bones and great lines. I love that it’s one level with a two car garage … so logical, but so difficult to find in Mill Valley.

The setting: At 16,150 sq ft, the lot is large, which means that the house could be expanded. The level front yard would lend itself well to lawn, and the back (which is currently upslope and ivy covered) could be made into a cozy little space for outdoor dining. The property even holds a small grove of redwood trees - quintessential Mill Valley.

The location: Scott Valley is known for wider streets, sidewalks, warmer weather and the membership-only Scott Valley Swim and Tennis Club. Neighbors take advantage of the proximity to the bike path, hiking trails and the recently renovated and expanded Edna McGuire Elementary School. The homes vary in size and style, with sale prices ranging from approximately $1,000,000 to a recent, 2014 sale at $4,000,000.

The scoop: According to the listing agent, Steven Barbour of Alain Pinel Realtors, the house has been generating lots of interest. Between the location and the renovation/expansion possibilities, I’m guessing that it will have multiple offers and sell for over asking.

Offers on Tuesday, 1.28.14.
