What's Your One Good Thing?

You know those moments in life when it feels like anything is possible and everything is firing on all cylinders?  Yeah, I think I had one in 2003 when I didn’t have any screws leftover after assembling an IKEA bookshelf.  It’s gone now and I miss it - the moment, not the bookshelf.

Most days, the reality of day to day life settles in as elegantly and smoothly as a 450 pound gorilla in an Economy class seat.  Picture that for a moment.  That’s Real Life in all it’s glory, right?

Hi, I’m Carrie...one of the girls behind Juice Girl in Mill Valley.  Think of us here at Juice Girl as a team of earth-bound action heroes who want to use our powers for good, not evil.  We’re excited about our 100% organic, cold-pressed juices that are made fresh each day but we’re even more passionate about the stories our customers are sharing with us and the good things that they are up to in their own lives.

Here’s my own short story:  I’m a busy-working-mom-of-three with great friends and a loving family.  I floss daily (okay, weekly).  I’ve got a triathlon and a marathon under my belt and manage to get decent highlights every other month.    My life looks great on the outside but like a wood veneer, probably doesn’t stand up to closer inspection.    Let’s just say I have a co-dependent relationship with my bathrobe and rather large dust bunnies under most of my furniture.  I relish eating cereal for dinner over the kitchen sink.  My socks don’t often match.  Does that count as balance?

Speaking of balance - I’m fascinated by the fine line between those moments when we are squeezing the juice (pun intended) and, well, let’s be honest...when we’re just phoning it in and hoping to leave a message.  So what tips us in one direction over the other?

Some of my particularly wise friends would say that it’s all a matter of being fully conscious in the moment and appreciating the little things in life.  That it’s about achieving one good thing because that one thing can anchor us while the rest of life’s chaos swirls about.  Sounds too simple, really.  A little like the boiled down gem of an idea: ‘eat less, move more’.   Surely it has to be more complicated than that.

But perhaps not.  I know from experience that just getting off the couch can be a good thing.  Because this is often followed by me putting on my running shoes.  Which inevitably leads to me partaking in something that looks suspiciously like exercise.  Then I come home and shower rather than using the dry shampoo AGAIN.  And lo and behold when I get thirsty, I drink a green juice instead of a diet soda because why go and ruin the streak?  Most likely my socks still won’t match (let’s get real, people) but that’s okay because I’ve racked up several other little victories that put my life back on the right side of the balance equation.

So that’s part of my story.  But enough about me.  We’d love to meet you, hear about the good things that help keep you energized and centered...especially this time of year.  We could all use the advice!  Stop by 515 Miller Avenue in Mill Valley (inside Yolo Yogurt) to say hello and try one of our lovely juices made fresh every day.  You never know, one good thing might just lead to another.
