Tam High sophomore and Mill Valley resident, Jackson Hettler, 15, was medaled for his exceptional accomplishment at the in the Marin County Triathlon this passed weekend.
Finishing 3rd overall, and first in his age group, Hettler completed the sprint distance in the race, held Sunday at McNears Beach.
“Jackson came away with a podium worthy finishing time 56 minutes 51 seconds,” father Paul Hettler boasted, “he had the highest finish of any local Marin county entrants in the Sprint Distance, with number 1 and 2 being from Santa Rosa and Oakland.”
Hettler told Patch he has been doing Triathlons for three seasons now, since the age of 12, and considers his greatest accomplishment his qualification and completion of the elite Nationals for Youth Triathlon Championships in West Chester, Ohio in the summer of 2012
“It is something I love to do,” he explained, “I love the scene and the people and the competition, how it pushes me physically and mentally.”
But running isn’t Hettler’s only passion, the water is where he really likes to be. “I swim and bike, and would like to play college water polo— that is my main, sport. I am on the varsity team at Tam high.”This was Hettler’s last sprint race of the season, and he says he is now focusing on upcoming MCALS and NCS in water polo at Tam.
