Local Tri-Mathlon Winners Show Off Their Accomplishments, Mathnasium Raises Money for KIDDO

Four local students won top awards at last month's national math-letic competition, Mathnasium's Tri-Mathlon, donating $350 to KIDDO. More than 50 local students participated in the fun.

Four local students won top awards at last month's national math-letic competition, Mathnasium's Tri-Mathlon, donating $350 to KIDDO.

Fifty-three, 2-5th grade students, from 17 different area schools, including 36-KIDDO kids, participated in the center's third-annual, national TriMathalon competition on Oct. 20. Elementary school kids demonstrated their knowledge of the three principles of number sense: counting, proportional thinking, and wholes and parts.
 
Top winners per grade level included current Mathnasium students, 2nd grade Old Mill student, Jake Ostrander, 4th grade Bel Aira student, Will Tolmie, and 5th grader Ethan, with special acknowledgement for 3rd grade winner, Alexander, who only answered one question incorrectly, narrowing missing the national prize.

Approximately 4,000 students participated in this national Tri-Mathlon competition, at 180-Mathnasium centers last month. With a combined attempt at more than 120,000 questions, the event raised $37,000 in donations for local schools nationwide.

With a total of 53 students participating locally, the breakdown per town was as follows:
39 students from Mill Valley
4 students from Tiburon
4 students from Novato
3 students from San Rafael
2 students from San Francisco
1 student from Larkspur
