As part of the Mill Valley Public Library's ongoing art lecture series, the Library will host a special event Wednesday, November 20th featuring Roy Forest, an award-winning Mill Valley sculptor.

The lecture is part of a new, informal series organized by Art Contemporary Marin, a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and presenting contemporary art throughout Marin County.

A mixed-media artist who creates sculptures from metal, neon, glass, and wood, Forest will show slides and discuss his creative process from inspiration through completion. He will also speak about what it takes to show one’s art work and how to access art of various forms.

Art Contemporary Marin's Christin Anderson will moderate, engaging the audience in a discussion with Forest.  Forest was born in New York City and earned his B.F.A. from the New York Institute of Technology.

A Mill Valley resident since 1979, Forest has contributed a great deal to the local art scene. He has been a key player with the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, and is a three-time recipient of the Festival's Certificate of Excellence in sculpture (1998, 1999, 2006).

He has planned and facilitated art shows, and has exhibited his work far and wide in Marin County, including at the College of Marin in Kentfield, the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross, the O'Hanlon Gallery and 142 Throckmorton Theatre and Gallery in Mill Valley, and the Downtown Art Center, Falkirk Cultural Center, and Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, among many other venues. Forest's work has also appeared in galleries and exhibitions in San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and beyond.

The November 20th Art Contemporary Marin lecture with Roy Forest will take place from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the Creekside Room of the Mill Valley Public Library, located at 375 Throckmorton Avenue.

Refreshments will be served at 5:30 pm, with the presentation to begin at 6:00 pm. The lecture is free and open to the public, no registration required.
