Tip-a-Cop at Piazza D'Angelo and Balboa Cafe

On the heels of two successful Tip-a-Cop events at Piazza D’Angelo Ristorante in 2009 and 2010, the Mill Valley Police Department is hosting a pair of Tip-a-Cop events on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at both Piazza D’Angelo and Balboa Café.

In 2010, more than $230,000 was raised for Special Olympics in Northern California through Tip-A-Cops at various restaurants.

Tip-A-Cop is an annual fundraising event organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run in which officers from different agencies volunteer their time and act as “Celebrity Waiters" to raise funds for Special Olympics. We serve patrons in uniform and give each table an envelope asking that, in addition to the tips for their server, we would appreciate a donation to Special Olympics.

Tip-a-Cop events are held every year by law enforcement agencies throughout Marin and Northern California.

“The idea is to be at the beck and call of the patrons of the restaurants, and at the end of the meal, the customers leave a "tip" in a Special Olympics envelope as a donation,” Mill Valley Police Officer Ian Maddison said.
