California To Celebrate Indies Bookstores on California Bookstore Day, May 3rd

From Eureka to San Diego, Indie Bookstores are coming together to celebrate California's first ever, "California Bookstore Day."Designed for book lovers of all ages, to go to their favorite participating local store for a range of literary events. Across the state, bookstores are planning wonderful events form readings, author appearances, as well as the release of limited edition books. 
Visitors are promised to expect the unexpected with giveaways, food, games and even fortune telling. 

From CBD press release : "California Bookstore Day is proud to announce 13 special items created by major authors and publishers especially for CBD 2014. These limited edition, unique books and word-based items will be available at participating CBD bookstores statewide only on May 3. One of the most eagerly anticipated items for sale is an exclusively designed book-length story based on Sleeping Beauty by Neil Gaiman. Another is the  “Classic California” boxed set, including novels by Charles Bukowski, John Fante, Armistead Maupin, and Elmore Leonard. Children—and the grownups who love them—will also be delighted by Do You Smell Carrots?, an anthology of jokes for kids featuring more than 50 favorite children’s authors including Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Jon Scieszka (The Stinky Cheese Man), and Lynne Reid Banks (The Indian in the Cupboard series).
