Warriors Heading to Phil Singer Summer Series in San Diego

Warriors Blue and Gold Teams head off to play in the Phil Singer Summer Series Tournament in San Diego! We expect great playing!

The First Base Foundation is pleased to announce that our Warriors Blue and Gold Teams are heading to play in the Phil Singer Summer Series in San Diego from July 27-August 2.

The tournament consists of highly skilled teams, from as far down as San Diego, up through the Bay Area, and up into the Seattle Washington area. Teams from Utah, Illinois, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri have also played in the past, as they heard about the tough level of play in the tournament.
Due to the tournament’s skilled level of competition, many colleges, especially those from the Southern California area, come and scout players they would not have otherwise seen. Last season, Warriors player Corbin Wirta was seen by UCSD, scouted, and subsequently went to play baseball for them.

The First Base Foundation will be attending the tournament for its fifth season, having played very well in pool play each year, losing only to the eventual winner of the tournament bracket play last year.

History of the Tournament
In 2002, the “West Cost Baseball Alliance” was started by Phil Singer as an opportunity to put on a tournament that would consist of teams and competition a cut above the rest. The tournament name was changed to the “Phil Singer Summer Series” after his death in 2008. Word spread quickly about the level of play in the tournament, and the original six-team format grew to 20 teams by 2005 with a second “Fall Fling” tournament added, and eventually to the 24-team slot “best-of-the-best” tournament it is today.

We are so glad to be playing in this competitive tournament once again, and we look forward to our teams' successes!
