Why Buddhism and Why Shin Buddhism in Contemporary America

Renown teacher and author Dr. Kenneth Kenshin Tanaka speaks on “Why Buddhism and Why Shin Buddhism in Contemporary America”, on Saturday, Mar. 29 from 1-4pm at the Buddhist Temple of Marin.  The seminar will explore the doctrinal and spiritual qualities of Shin Buddhism, and focus on the “practice” and nature of Shinjin, as well as the teachings of Amida Buddha and Pure Land.  The talk is open to the public and donation for entry is $20.


Dr. Tanaka is a
professor of Buddhist Studies at Musashino University in Tokyo, and is the
president of the International Association of Shin Buddhist Studies and the
Japanese Association for the Study of Buddhism and Psychology.  A dynamic speaker, he delivered the
keynote address for the 750th anniversary ceremony honoring Shinran
Shonin’s death in 2010.


Dr. Tanaka holds
a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from Tokyo University, and is the author of five
books on Buddhism, including American

Buddhism: Buddhism Changes, America
Changes (Musashino University, 2010)

(In Japanese), and Pure Land Buddhism:
Historical Development and Contemporary Manifestation
(Dharmaram College,
Bangalore, India, 2004).
