Monday Night at the Movies "Philadelphia"

Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) is a successful corporate lawyer when he is fired from his law firm because the partners fear he has AIDS.  Unable to find any lawyer to represent him in his suit against his old firm, Beckett eventually hires a small-time ambulance-chasing personal injury lawyer, Joe Miller (Denzel Washington) who himself is homophobic.  As Miller's unconventional cross examinations expose anti-gay attitudes in the courtroom, getting to know Andrew and his family outside of court forces Joe to confront his own prejudices as well.  Hanks won an Oscar for Best Actor.  Bruce Springsteen won an Oscar for Best Original Song.  It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.  Directed by Jonathan Demme.
