Monday Night at the Movies "Jefferson in Paris"
This film is about the years Thomas Jefferson (Nick Nolte) spent in Paris as ambassador prior to the outbreak of the French Revolution. While absorbing much of French culture, his experiences at the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette caused him to support reform. At 41 and recently widowed, he had with him his daughters Patsy (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Polly and the slave girl Sally Hemings (Thandie Newton). Given the chance to remain free in Paris, Sally nonethless returned to the U.S. with Jefferson and remained at Monticello as a slave until he died, bearing him 6 childern, all born into slavery.
