Monday Night at the Movies "Coming Home"

Without a single scene of combat footage, "Coming Home" manages to portray the scars inflicted on American society by the Vietnam War as seen through the eyes of the wife of a Marine Corps Captain who is serving in Vietnam.  With  time on her hands, Sally (Jane Fonda) begins volunteering at a local Veterans' Hospital where she is reacquainted with an old high school friend, Luke (Jon Voight) who has returned from Vietnam paralyzed.  Then Sally's husband (Bruce Dern) returns, also psychologically damaged by the war.  Both Fonda and Voight won Oscars for their performances.  The film also won Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film Editing.  It was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
