Giuseppe Verdi with James Sokol

Through film clips and discussion, James Sokol will present an insightful and melodious survey of Verdi's repertoire.  Experience the profound effects this great composed had on the development of opera, from early traditional gems (Oberto, Nabucco) to middle-period favorites (Rigoletto, La Traviata) to late, almost modern masterpieces (Othello, Falstaff).  James Sokol started his career under Beverly Sills at New York City Opera.  He has worked for San Francisco Opera and has been involved in opera in the Bay Area for over two decades.
