Gary Snyder at Diesel Bookstore

Diesel, A Bookstore in Larkspur welcomes poet Gary Snyder to the store for a special event on Sunday, September 29th at 3pm.

Gary Snyder is
California's greatest literary, cultural, spiritual and environmental
treasure. From his early years at Berkeley, through the Beats, and the
Dharma Bums, through the 60's up to the present, he has been a
thoughtful, playful, prompting voice bringing Buddhism, ecology,
watershed ethics, and scholarship to a plethora of social, cultural and
spiritual issues. Widely celebrated as one of America's greatest poets,
he is the poet probably most carried in rucksacks and backpacks from
Point Reyes to the Rockies and beyond. His writing has become an
intimate friend, and a reassuring companion in many a personal struggle
to be a more fully human person; a better poet; a more committed
resident on this Turtle Island; and an engaged earthy and mindful
citizen.

We are grateful for his return to Diesel, this time to
celebrate the Grand Opening of our new store in Larkspur, just down from
Mt. Tamalpais. His books will be available, from Rip Rap to his most recent, Cold Mountain Poems: Twenty-Four Poems by Han Shan (a
republishing of Snyder's translations from the early 50's) which
includes a CD of his lecture, "Cold Mountain: The Life of Creative
Translation," given in Berkeley last year. It is a beautiful edition,
just published by Counterpoint Press, which will also be republishing
his classic masterwork Mountains and Rivers Without End, accompanied
by three CDs of recordings of Snyder's readings of the poems. This
beautiful anniversary edition will be available this Fall and we can
take advance orders for those interested.
