Mill Valley vocalist Dee Bell's new CD out - Celebrate Valentines Day

Silva • Bell • Elation, the January 2014 release from Concord Jazz and Laser recording vocalist Dee Bell, brings her first recording in twenty-three years with pianist Marcos Silva the master of Brazilian rhythms. Dee’s new CD includes some of her long-time favorites from across several genres of music; jazz standards, bossa, rock and swing.  This is a special intimate release party for lovers and friends on Valentines Day!  Celebrate Valentines dancing to the sultry sounds of Dee Bell and the Marco Silva Trio.

"Dee’s voice is pure and tender, at times haunting. Her approach to the material is straightforward and unpretentious. She takes you inside the lyrics, and you can almost hear her smile.”          - Jesse Hamlin, SF Chronicle

Valentine’s Day has extra significance for jazz swing singer Dee Bell.  It was the day her first Concord Jazz recording with Stan Getz was officially released in 1980.  Now on Valentine’s Day 2014 Dee will offer a presentation of the swing samba music from Silva • Bell • Elation, her recent collaboration with Marcos Silva (Brazilian pianist/composer/producer/and JazzSchool instructor known for his work with Flora Purim & Toninho Horta) that officially releases via radio and press for sale on 21 January 2014.  Dee Bell and the Marcos Silva trio will appear in an intimate setting in a prime CD release show for friends on Friday, February 14th at the Music Box in Larkspur (500 Magnolia, Larkspur 94939).  This musical offering is open to the public, but because of the intimate size of the room, it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance through http://www.murphyproductions.com/ .

In the 1980s, Bell recorded two Concord Jazz albums, Let There Be Love with Stan Getz and One by One with Tom Harrell.  Eddie Duran was arranger, music director and guitarist on both recordings.  These albums charted nationally in the top 25 with One by One reaching the 19th spot in the states and the 10th chart spot in London as the jazz world  “sat up to listen,” to quote writer Jesse Hamlin.  It was during this period that Bell was a regular performer on the San Francisco club scene.  Sagacious Grace with Houston Person, John Stowell, Al Plank (R.I.P) and other bay area greats released in August 2011, twenty-one years after it was recorded, because the recording required current digital technology to clean up distortion problems from an engineer’s misplaced microphone during the recording. The ill-placed microphone caused bleed-through from the bass and guitar amps.  Sagacious Grace (dedicated to the memory of Al Plank), hit the 31 spot in national jazz airplay but was a historic album by the time it was finally released.

Bell partnered with Marcos Silva in a collaboration for the Sagacious Grace CD release show.  This show inspired such joy that Bell and Silva decided to record the joy for everyone to share.  It is our “happy thought” to share this elation with a world that is quite in need of “getting back to the garden” before it is too late.  The garden of living simply, aligned with nature, and in support of one another as equals in partnering for a healthy, happy world.

To quote jazz biographer and author (New York) James Gavin’s Silva * Bell • Elation liner notes: “ …[Bell] she says, ‘music for me is a meditation. When everything is the way it’s supposed to be and the band is operating as one vehicle I ride the sound, and it becomes this healing process.’  She shares it with us in this return to her strongest and most challenging calling. “

Come share the jubilation February 14, doors at 8:00, Show at 8:30.  To get tickets in advance go to http://www.murphyproductions.com/ $20 GA to $30 reserved at table (advance), The Music Box, 500 Magnolia, Larkspur, CA  94939.  For more on Dee Bell visit:
