New August Coffees

Every month Equator Coffees & Teas introduces new coffees

For August we just introduced a new espresso blend called Eye of the Tiger Espresso. This is the third edition of this seasonal espresso offering. Eye of the Tiger is a limited-time featured blend or single-origin coffee designed specifically with espresso extraction in mind. This version is a blend, which revives the original blend concept from last year -- combining a deep, round, chocolaty and full bodied coffee from Costa Rica with a sweet, bright, citrus-toned powerhouse from Kenya. This blend has gone the distance and has the will to survive.

Just like last year, the foundation of Eye of the Tiger Espresso is a coffee from Gillio Ferraro’s farm El Espino, in Costa Rica. We combined this perfectly balanced coffee with a coffee from Kenya to layer on flavors of crisp and zesty citrus. We selected a peaberry grade micro-lot produced by the Kithingururu Farmers Cooperative Society.

Together these coffees, along with a decisive roast profile, bring out briskness and balance with flavors that pack a punch. We will roast the Eye of the Tiger as long as the blend components last.

We are also presenting an easy drinking coffee from our friends at Finca Hartmann in Panama. We are currently brewing Finca Hartmann at our coffee bar located inside Proof Lab Surf Shop in Mill Valley.

Finca Hartmann is located next to a large preserve of protected land on the Panama-Costa Rica border, which has been recognized as a World Heritage Site. The farm is covered with old growth rainforest that naturally provide shade for the coffee trees. The rainforest attracts roughly 280 bird species to the area each year as well as a variety of mammals and reptiles.

Equator is fortunate to have a special relationship with the Hartmann family. Kelly Hartmann is the grandson of the founder of Finca Hartmann is the farm manager of our own coffee farm, Finca Sophia.

Read more about and purchase these coffees, and many others on the Equator website.
