Woman Reports Losing $20,000 Necklace

This week's police blotter features a number of home and car burglaries over the past week, as well as a dead seagull, an expensive lost Tiffany's necklace, a wire transfer scam and a squabble over dirt being moved.

Sept. 20

2:25 a.m. – While on routine patrol in the 700 block of E. Blithedale Ave., a police officer saw a woman sitting in front of a closed business. The officer approached the woman, who reportedly “went off” on the officer. Police arrested the 26-year-old San Francisco resident for loitering/prowling, battery on an officer and resisting/obstructing arrest. She was booked into Marin County Jail. 

7:32 a.m. – A resident called police to report seeing a woman standing in the middle of Redwood Hwy. near Goodman Building Supply and crying. An officer approached the woman and learned that she was upset about a seagull that had been killed in the roadway.

10:23 a.m. – A woman called police from near the front of the campus to report that she had lost her diamond necklace from Tiffany’s when she dropped off her brother earlier in the day at school. The woman said the necklace, which she said fell off of her, cost between $20,000 and $30,000.

4:49 p.m. – A resident of Rowan Way reported that he was asked a day earlier by a purported relative to wire $3,300 to Mexico, which he did. He then learned that his relative was not in Mexico and had not requested the wire transfer. Police took a report and are looking into the matter.

September 21

8:06 a.m. – A resident called police to report that a vehicle was driven off the road at Buena Vista and Carmelita avenues and into the bushes. The driver was unharmed but needed help in retrieving the vehicle. Poluce responded and determined that the driver did not have a license. He was cited and the car was towed.

11:14 a.m. – A resident reported that his son, a student at Tam High, had his iPod Touch stolen from his backpack from a locker on the football field locker room a day earlier. The estimated value of the iPod is $350.

September 22

8:45 a.m. – An alarm company reported to police that the alarm for the vault door in the ATM room of at 130 Throckmorton Ave. was going off. Police responded and spoke with a bank employee and determined that it was a false alarm.

12:25 p.m. – A resident reported that the driver’s side window of her car was smashed and her wallet and cell phone were stolen. The woman had parked her car while she was picking up her child at Elma Street and Lovell Avenue and discovered the burglary when she returned.

7:50 p.m. – A resident of Helens Lane reported a burglary, with an open window apparently used to get inside the house. The home’s master bedroom was ransacked and jewelry was found on the back deck. The owner had not yet assessed all of what was taken. Police suspect that the resident came home and interrupted a burglary in progress.

September 23

11:49 a.m. – Someone reportedly broke into a home on Cascade Drive, breaking both front and back windows, and stole cash and computers. Police are investigating.

9:01 p.m. – A resident of Dorset Lane complained about loud noise three doors down from her home, saying the neighbors were being way too loud and she wants the party shut down or she’d go to the house herself and take care of it. The neighbors had turned off the music, and police advised the caller that there was no violation of the city’s municipal code. 

September 24

12:11 p.m. – A resident reported seeing a man moving dirt from his property to the fire road on Summit Avenue. The caller said the subject owned a backhoe. An officer contacted the property owner and determined that he was simply moving dirt from one side of his property to another. No violation.

12:49 p.m. – One of the shuttle buses for the scraped another car and the bumpers got stuck together. Corte Madera Tow was called to the scene to provide assistance. No one was injured.

September 25

2:44 a.m. – A resident of Locust Avenue reported that a man who appeared drunk was outside his home asking to come inside. An officer responded and arrested the man on suspicion of public drunkenness. 

September 26

12:10 a.m. – An officer on patrol spotted a man on the campus of . The officer approached the man, who said he was looking for his son’s backpack. The officer sent the man on his way. Approximately 10 hours later, the principal of Edna Maguire reported being told by a parent that a man was sitting in the bushes on the bike path near school drinking out of a paper bag. Officers responded and checked bike path but were unable to locate the man.

6:44 p.m. – A cell phone with an estimated value of $600 was reported stolen from the locker room at Tam High.
