Police Blotter: May 24 – June 6

A kerfuffle over some peace signs, a rooster that sounds like a chainsaw and the latest Dude, Where's My Car? entry highlight the latest batch of police activities.

Tuesday, May 24

(Suspicious Person) On Cascade Drive at 10:30 a.m., a resident called police to report that a man in a long black trench coat was looking at her and her friends in an off way and she wanted police to check him out. Police responded and checked the entire length of Cascade with negative results.

(Suspicious Person) Police arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk in public, having an open container and violating his probation after receiving two reports from residents. The first report came in at 1 p.m. from the 400 block of Miller Ave., with the man reportedly shirtless, wearing sunglasses, carrying a black duffel bag and screaming obscenities and inappropriate things. Police contacted the man and advised him of the complaints, and the man agreed to keep it down. Police received another call from Locust Avenue at 3:14 p.m. with a report that a man was holding a beer in a bag. Police contacted the man and arrested him.

Wednesday, May 25

(Hit and Run Felony) A pair of residents of Lomita Drive caused a kerfuffle at around 2 p.m. in a dispute over some peace signs one neighbor had put up. A woman called police to report that her neighbor had hit her with his car and fled. The caller said she was standing in front of his vehicle because he had torn down some peace signs she had put up. Police contacted the neighbor, who claimed the woman jumped in front of his vehicle. Police also contacted a witness, who stated she saw no intent to harm the woman.

Saturday, May 28

(Grand Theft Report) A $4,000 bicycle was stolen from a car bike rack on Mountain View Avenue at 3:49 p.m., according to its owner. The owner was out of town at the time and told police he’d being in a photo of the bike and its serial number when he gets back to file a report.

(Petty Theft Report) A resident called police to report he lost his cell phone at 142 Throckmorton Theatre the night before and that he used the Mobile Me application to identify its location in Oakland.

Tuesday, May 31

(Vandalism Report) The school secretary at called police at 8 a.m. to report a broken window in the auditorium. A police officer responded and found that it appeared to be accidental from kids playing baseball on the playground over the weekend.

(Fraud Report) A resident of Catalpa Avenue reported at 2:03 p.m. that his wife’s American Express card was used to pay a $97 bill for limousine service in New Jersey. The man had contacted the credit card company and wanted a police report for the record.

Wednesday, June 1

(Advice to Citizen) A resident called police to report that his son had his wheels stolen from his car a year ago and now has second-hand information on who has them now. The caller’s son saw the wheels on a car belonging to a Tam High senior at the 7-Eleven on Miller Avenue at 8:28 a.m.

(Lost Property) A man called police to report that he dropped his wallet in the area of the downtown at 10:45 a.m. The wallet contained credit cards, $745 in cash and two driver licenses. The credit cards had not yet been used but the man wanted police to call him if the wallet was turned in.

(Physical Altercation) A fight broke out between two students at at 2:24 p.m., and police were called to the scene. Police cited both students. No medical attention was needed.

Thursday, June 2

(Miscellaneous Code Violation) A resident of Edgewood Avenue called police at 8:04 a.m. to report that a neighbor has a rooster in violation of a noise ordinance. The caller told police that he wanted to remain anonymous but that he had spoken to at least 30 neighbors who have complained about the rooster. The man said the rooster’s crowing sounded like a “low volume chainsaw.” Police were unable to locate a rooster.

Friday, June 3

(Suspicious Circumstance) The janitor at reported to police at 7:05 a.m. that a man was in an orange tent near the bike path. The janitor said he thought the man had been drinking and slept there overnight and that he was concerned since students would be showing up for school soon. Police responded and contacted the man, who was last living in Las Vegas. Police warned the man of the city’s ordinance against being drunk in public. The man collected his belongings and moved along.

(Petty Theft) A vendor at the called police at 10:46 a.m. to report that a man wearing a British hat and a sweatshirt around his waist was walking around talking to himself, turning away customers and trying to eat the food. The caller said the man was currently bothering two girls by the cherries. Police responded and found the man harassing people at the market with his belongings in a CVS shopping cart. Police arrested the man on suspicion of stealing the shopping cart and booked him into Marin County Jail.

Saturday, June 4

(Petty Theft Report) A bicycle was reportedly stolen over night from Mill Valley Middle School. The bicycle’s approximate value is $500.

(Burglary Report) A bicycle worth about $600 was stolen from a storage unit at the Public Storage Building on Redwood Hwy., according to a report, with the thief cutting the lock on the unit.

Sunday, June 5

(Assist Citizen) A resident of Park Avenue called police at 10:19 a.m. to report that his car was stolen sometime the previous night. The man said he last saw his car at 8 p.m. and was to up to date on its payments. The man said he left a copy of his car keys in the car’s center console. When police responded, the man told an officer that he forgot that he left his car at his other home in San Francisco.

Monday, June 6

(Suspicious Person) A resident called police at 2:23 a.m. to report that a woman was sleeping inside the . Police responded and moved the woman along.
