Horse Hill Tour Rolls Out Sunday

Free guided horseback tour will feature beautiful views and discussion of the importance of land conservation.

Marin County Open Space District ranger Karen Kilian and volunteer guide Robert Eisenstaedt will lead a free guided horseback tour of Horse Hill Preserve Sunday from 9:30am to noon.

The tour will feature beautiful views and discussion of the natural environment and the importance of land conservation. The tour will also cross some paved roads.

Horse Hill is the only remaining large horse pasture in Marin. The hill, perched along Highway 101, includes 14 horses and is now protected open space through the City of Mill Valley and the Marin County Open Space District.

Tour attendees should gather at the corral at the end of Lomita Drive. For more information, call 507-2816.

Dangerous for people and kids going up the narrow trail. It can be dangerous if the horses are stampeding down. There is really no way out.

You can ask open space for all the lease information. The whole hill side is leased to 14 horse owners for only couple of thousand dollars a year for life :) The spots are probably worth $3-400 a month the rest is subsidized by Marin tax payers. Open space must be feeling really generous with the counties resources. Pasture space in Novato is around $250/month. Horse stalls in Tennessee Valley Stables with 15 year waiting list are around $6oo/month. The spots at horse hill are around $80-90 per month. If you think this subsidy is ridiculous call open space Director Linda Dahl, Director & General Manager | ldahl@co.marin.ca.us (415) 499-6387
